I have always shared my father’s love of antique furniture and specific pieces that had meaning and history. The mirror on the wall of the lounge, like many pieces in my parents’ home, has a wonderful sentimental story behind it.
Born and schooled in Cape Town, I started my career as a Cordon Bleu chef and one of my first jobs was working at the British High Commissioner’s residence as the private chef and I guess this is where my own journey and appreciation of antiques began.
I started my own collection of beautiful pieces, on my travels through Europe and the UK and treasure my first piece of Venetian glass jewellery.
While I worked in the hospitality industry in the UK, it was always my intention to return home to South Africa. After marrying I moved to the Eastern Cape and met wonderful and inspiring people who influenced my collection. My most memorable experience was working at a boutique hotel and being surrounded by the most amazing collection of South African art, sculptures, and glass.
My journey has come full circle with the launch of Chic for me, a lifestyle and décor brand featuring South African designers & artists from around our beautiful country, highlighting their inspiring stories behind their beautiful fashion, décor accessories, ceramics, and jewellery. Giving my shoppers the opportunity to be inspired by the pieces they purchase.
